Contractor Data Weather Radar System
In the summer of 1993 when frequently heavy rains and flooding hit Iowa, Tom Tjelmeland researched a weather system being used by the agricultural industry to track forecasted weather trends. T & K purchased a Farm Data Weather System from Broadcast Partners in Des Moines, Iowa for the weather radar. However, because the radar maps were stationary it did not give enough timely information to benefit the roofing crews. As a result, Tom Tjelmeland partnered with Broadcaster Partner to develop the Contractor Dayta System. The system was not only to provide the contractor with action radar and other weather information, but also roofing industry news. Eventually Broadcast Partners was sold to DTN who still provides a weather system for contractors.
T&K still uses seven to ten of these systems in the site's construction trailer or within the customers buildings. Use of these systems have saved T & K, and probably many other contractors, countless weather related claims and has allowed T&K crews to maximize productivity by planning their day around possible inclement weather.
