Through the early 90s, T&K worked with a number of asbestos abatement subcontractors when it was discovered that many of T&K Roofing's customers owned roofs that contained asbestos material. Coordination of work given possible inclement weather conditions, the inability of asbestos abatement contractors to meet productivity goals, and most importantly the complete failure to follow even less stringent work practices created serious concerns and in some cases interior damage on a few T&K projects. In 1995, T&K undertook the process of becoming a licensed abatement contractor and was awarded their license in 1996. In cooperation with the international roofers union and the local roofers union, T&K was able to train, certify and license 12 asbestos supervisors and establish a worker training program through the local union apprenticeship program.
